The final chapter of the book sums up what was read about and describes some of the main take away hypotheses from the book. I am going to share with you the hypotheses that I think are the most important to me.
The most important hypotheses I think is, "The dominant goals of the environmental movement will vary with transnational funding; when transnational funding is high, the goals of the ecoimperialists will dominate, and when transnational funding is low, the goals of the ecoresisters will dominate"(Lewis p.202). I think this is one of the most important hypotheses because it showed true in Ecuador and I think it would in all places. Projects are always dependent on the amount of money is available. If there is no funding for the project then you obviously will not be able to proceed with it, which is when organizations that have the steady income can start to grow.
The second most important hypotheses that I read was, "Increased resource extraction will lead to increased environmental disruptions"(Lewis p.202). I think this hypothesis is very important because I think we are now realizing how true it is. If we continue to take from the ecosystems and extract all the resources, the ecosystem will never be able to get back to its normal self. If we keep taking from our environment it will be able to be saved and restored.
Through reading this book I have learned so much about Ecuador that I had never even thought to learn about before my trip. I am so glad to have read this book and learned about Ecuadors past and I really think that this will make my trip to Ecuador so much more interesting.
