Today we headed up to Cotopaxi. We didn't actually go up the volcano, but we were able to look at it from a distance. When people hike up Cotopaxi, it will usually take them two days to get to the top; they will start the hike and night and arrive in the morning. Once they get to the top, they only stay up there for about 15 minutes before heading back down. There will most likely be an eruption of Cotopaxi in the next 5 to 10 years and it is going to be big. We went and walked by a lake, called Limboi Pumpo, that was formed by a glacier We didn't stay for long because it was a cloudy day so we couldn't really see to top, and we had to head to the airport. While heading back we discussed how the land was flat because of the lava eruptions, as well as how this land used to be used as a lot of farmland before it because a National park in 1975.
After our short stay at Cotopaxi we headed to lunch. we went to lunch at a cute pizza place where they had hammocks and swings and it was beautiful outside, so it was even better. After lunch we had to head to the airport for our first flight back to Guayaquil. We got to the airport and we all had to say goodbye to Diego :(. This was a short flight and we then had to wait for our flight home for a while. We all ate dinner together and then discussed our favorite parts about the trip. Our flight home left at 10 pm so we all went to bed on that flight and when we woke up, we were in Philly!!
Extra Research:
Cotopaxi Cotopaxi is 19,393 feet high, which is one of the highest volcanoes in the world. The largest eruptions that have ever taken place were in 1744,1768,1877, and 1904. The eruption in 1877 resulted in volcanic mudflows that spread over 60 miles to the Pacific Ocean. Following the major eruption in 1904 there were a couple minor eruptions in the following years. When it comes to climbing Cotopaxi, there was an attempt in 1802 by a guy name Alexander von Humboldt who said "the mountain is unclimbable". On November 28th, 1872 Wilhem Reiss reached the top of Cotopaxi. Cotopaxi is now climbed by many, but it is still a very difficult mountain to climb. https://www.britannica.com/place/Cotopaxi
